Imagine all of your belongings on the side of a curb ready for the next disposal run. This was the Perry's reality after Harvey's waters rushed inside their beloved home.
"It's a crazy feeling seeing all of our stuff out in the streets like this," admitted Titus Perry the day Lakewood volunteers came to help clear out the house.
Lakewood members since 1998, the patriarch of the home, Mr. Perry served as an usher until he passed away six years ago leaving Mrs. Perry a single mother of their three children, one of whom is autistic and attends our Champions Club.
Taking care of a family by yourself isn't easy, and facing a huge devastating loss as big as Harvey without flood insurance is life-altering. That's why we stepped in to help this family and provide financial support.
Currently, the Perry family is living in a hotel while they wait for their home to be finished with repairs. The home is badly damaged and Lakewood Church's rebuild team is in the process of helping them recover.
A lot of Mr. Perry's creative input into the house is now destroyed, but the family is choosing to see this as a new beginning. Their faith in God has anchored them through another storm. "The things that really matter, we still have," said Mrs. Perry.
We are so thankful we've been able to come alongside them and aid them in their time of need. However, more work still needs to be done, as we are in the process of helping them fully recover.
