"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." - John 3:16
When we really love someone we give from our heart. We help them with what they need. We do it selflessly even to the point of death. Jesus said there is no greater love than to lay down one's life for another.
To truly love, is to give.
"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." - John 13:34-35
"Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy." - 1 Corinthians 14:1 . . .
Why prophecy? Because it builds people up. If someone tears you down, that's not from God. New testament prophesy is to build people up. Here's what you do if someone tells you something that doesn't line up with the word of God. Say, "I don't receive that". My nephew has an immune deficiency disease. He has to take shots to stay healthy. My sister-in-law and nephew were frustrated with my dad who would frequently say negative things to him about how he was going to be sick his entire life. I told him to just say, "I don't receive that". Instead declare, "The word of God says, by the stripes of Jesus I am healed". We can use our words as a gift, to speak life and faith to the people God has put in our path.
If you are going through something, the best thing you can do is serve or give in the area of your need. If you are struggling in your finances, sow a seed. In church, we say, "Have a need, sow a seed". You will reap what you sow! When you live a life of generosity you'll receive even more in return because it's impossible to out give God.
